A keen linguist, Jonathan speaks fluent Arabic, Chinese, French, Italian and Russian and leads on immigration, general citizenship and inbound investments for private clients.Jonathan also serves as aviation leader, advising on aircraft registration, AOC support, aircraft leasing and finance, inbound investment and related tax and legal work. An English Barrister by profession, Jonathan served as Malta Representative to the International Maritime Organization 1999-2003 and is a pilot with current land and seaplane ratings.A student of the Law Society of Ireland, BPP Law and the Middle Temple, he holds degrees in Economics, Law, Politics and History from the Universities of Malta, London, Sussex and Cambridge. Following extensive experience in national, UN and EU sanctions policy making, implementation, administration and enforcement Jonathan acts as Trade Controls Subject Matter Expert. Before joining Deloitte he headed Malta’s national sanctions competent authority. As Director General at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, he was also responsible for Malta’s overall relations with EU countries and the United Nations system. Over 20 years he worked in Beijing, Moscow and London as well as heading international trade policy at Malta MFA, serving also as a political officer for Europe and Asia at the Commonwealth Secretariat in London.On Malta’s aviation centenary in 2015 Jonathan helped found the Malta Seaplanes Association, a registered Voluntary Organisation of which he is chair.
