I'm a full-stack engineer stuck in the body of a front-end developer. What does this mean? You may ask yourself. Well, have you ever encountered a bug and ended up giving up, or passing it off, because the trail led into areas of the project that you didn't understand? Frustrating, right? Well, I'm a person that will trace that issue all the way to the source. If I run into something I don't understand, I'm going to start reading documentation, or asking questions, until I do understand. A lot of times, if I am going to report an issue, I'm also going to provide the solution, or suspected solution, to the people with access to fix it. I love solving problems, I love learning, and I dislike taking my problem and making it someone else’s problem. While most of my professional life has been on the front-end, my education was from the database to the display. This has opened opportunities during my career to take on projects that were way outside of the typical front-end scope, which in turn allowed me to grow skills beyond the CSS, HTML, and Frameworks that a front-end developer typically has. I’m adaptable. I put little weight into job titles and am more focused on business needs. I pick up on new tech very quickly and believe that to really understand languages, frameworks, and libraries you need to have a strong foundation in concepts. Languages, frameworks, and libraries are a developer’s tools; not a set of strict rules, and as times change, so shall we. I’m a chameleon. I can go from a team meeting, with all my closest dev friends, to a meeting with C-suite and you may think a different person entered the room. I am used to going outside of the bounds of the rest of my team and am able to adapt to my surroundings quickly. It helps a lot with collaboration when you can match the energy and style of the room. I try to keep everything in mind. Does this UX/UI design and architecture make sense? How will this update impact accessibility, SEO, performance, and the responsive site? How will stakeholders or management view the impact of a specific project? I feel like agile development, while an efficient industry standard, can create a black box where people easily overlook things to complete a task. This is becoming rather long winded and is maybe better suited for a blog post than an about me section. No matter, if you made it this far, congratulations are in order! Maybe you find what I’m saying interesting. If so, let’s chat.
