https://www.brompton.com/t-lineI was the lead engineer of a small, talented team with the aim to reduce the weight of a Brompton folding bicycle by 3.5Kg. The design is based on a titanium frame and maintains the base geometry and unique folding mechanism. From the tyres up, every component was carefully considered for weight reduction. The frame was re-designed using investment casting, orbital welding and oversize tubing to maintain the frame stiffness while keeping the Bromtpon ride characteristics. I brought in the use of structural simulation to support rapid development and topology optimisation of the investment cast hinges and bottom bracket.
