Jonathan is widely regarded as one of Canada's leading environmental lawyers. For more than 30 years, he has provided representation and advice on a broad spectrum of environmental, resource development and municipal planning and regulation issues. Jonathan is currently Chair of the American Bar Association's Environmental, Energy and Resources Law Section, the first non-American to serve on that organization's Executive Committee. He became a member of that section's Governing Council in 2012 after serving as chair of several substantive committees. In 2011, he was the first non-American to chair the ABA's Annual Conference on Environmental Law. Jonathan is a past chair of the National Environment, Energy and Resources Law Section of the Canadian Bar Association and a former chair of the Environmental Law Section of the Ontario Bar Association.Jonathan represents clients on the purchase, sale, remediation and redevelopment of contaminated sites, renewable energy approvals, mining regulation and permitting; management of natural resources; the transportation, handling and disposal of hazardous substances; air, water and waste regulation; lender liability; and environmental governance and management.His clients span a wide spectrum of industries, including chemicals, mining, construction, oil and gas, transportation, general manufacturing, automotive, cement, waste management, energy, financial services, food and beverage and agribusiness.Jonathan is regularly recognized as a leading Canadian environmental lawyer in publications including Chambers Global (Band 1), Chambers Canada (Band 1), Who's Who Legal: Environment, Legal 500 Canada, Who's Who Legal: Canada, The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory, and Best Lawyers in Canada.
