Technical lead of the ArQ subcutaneous autoinjector. Responsible for developing a novel single use drug delivery product from initial concept through to manufacture:• Led the design of plastic components ensuring the incorporation of robust internal mechanisms / interfaces, an optimal user interface and suitability for high volume manufacture and assembly;• Developed associated prototype and pilot manufacturing / assembly equipment, including co-ordination of associated build processes to support testing and commercial requirements;• Developed nest & tub packaging used within the supply chain to facilitate transportation, filling and sterilisation of Primary Drug Containers (PDCs);• Development and fulfilment of Functional Requirement Specifications (FRS) to ensure a commercial technology platform and the embodiment of specific drug applications;• Design / execution of associated test programmes, including the development of test rigs and associated protocols / methods to assess mechanical performance and Container Closure Integrity (CCI);• Management of the Risk Management File (including Hazard Analysis, Design FMEA and Process FMEA) and the Design History File (including tolerance analysis, maths models, GD&T, design traceability matrix, Bill of Materials).In addition to project activities, I was present throughout a period of rapid growth (20 to 90+ people over five years) and influenced the company culture and facilities.

Responsible for the management, design and delivery of novel surgical instruments to allow precise bone preparation and implantation of artificial spinal disc prostheses. Responsibilities and accomplishments include:• Delivery of design projects in accordance with ISO13485 and the Medical Device Directive:• Two CE marked surgical sets of 25+ re-usable Class I orthopaedic instruments;• Named inventor on four multi-regional patents (two granted).• Product Lifecycle Management from concept to CE mark and commercial launch:• Interfacing with surgeons, KOL’s and academics to identify user requirements and define design inputs;• Risk management including Failure Mode and Effect Analysis in accordance with ISO14971;• Generation of surgical techniques and Instructions For Use.

Surgicraft specialise in the development of spinal implants. To support an expanding US market, I was responsible for the re-design of a range of surgical instruments to help increase sales. This was achieved through an evaluation of the surgical technique and the identification of known quality issues. The resultant instrument set was further enhanced through an emphasis on improved ergonomics and aesthetics.

DePuy are a leading designer and manufacturer of orthopaedic implants and instruments. During a three-year period my role evolved from a CAD Engineer to a Project Co-ordinator. I worked within both their Knee and Spinal Departments over which time I was responsible for the design of instrumentation to support new surgical implants and techniques. In addition to the product design, I was also responsible for co-ordinating and generating the supporting documentation to enable release.

Liaising with design engineers, shop-floor staff and suppliers to co-ordinate the delivery process of helicopter components and sub-assemblies.
