Completed a research project into the foraging behaviour of the leaf-cutter ant Atta colombica, investigating under what conditions they are likely to forage, clear or ignore leaf fragments. The project included working as part of a team to design the experiment and collect data on thousands of ants over the course of a week, before independently analysing and writing up this data. We identified for the first time that Atta colombica ants are able to distinguish that leaf fragments handled by nestmates from leaf fragments handled by non-nestmates.
