I am a Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon and Associate Medical Director for the Women and Children’s Division at Wirral Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (WUTH). I joined this Trust in July 2011 having worked for four years as a Consultant General Surgeon at Warrington and Halton Hospitals. I was appointed to the Specialist Register in 2007. I am a Council Member for the Northwest Clinical Senate, consulting on major strategic healthcare reforms. I am also a panel member of the Cheshire and Mersey Children and Young People Alliance, a past member of the NICE Adoption and Impact Reference Panel, the ex-Lead Surgeon for the Wirral and Chester NHS Breast Screening Programme and ex-Clinical Governance Lead for Breast Surgery. In my clinical work I manage around 100 new cases of breast cancer a year providing one-stop diagnostic clinics for over 1000 new patients annually. I provide a complete oncoplastic breast conserving practice as well as a comprehensive primary or delayed breast reconstruction service. Beyond my clinical work for the Trust, I have pursued my interest in healthcare management and health strategy evolution by allying myself to the Clinical Senate and NICE. I joined the NHS Clinical Leaders Network and received management training within this forum and completed the in-house Top Leaders training programme at WUTH. I am currently enrolled on the NHS Executive Development Programme. I have progressed from Clinical Service Lead to Clinical Director and now Associate Medical Director all the while developing in experience and expertise. My appreciation of the health environment’s challenges being supported by my roles in the allied NHS services. I have demonstrated success as a medical manager through my time as CSL for breast services, CD for Women’s and Breast services and latterly as AMD. I can evidence participation in the successes of the Breast and Women’s services across denominators such as CQC inspections and GIRFT reviews, NHS Staff Surveys, Friends and Family scores, cultural reviews, staff sickness and finances; my teams have robust performance and service successes. I have ten years of medical management experience with seniority of responsibility. I have participated in service growth and success within our Trust and have a broad appreciation of the stresses and challenges facing health systems from my participation in local and regional NHS service revision and reconfiguration programmes
