Jon is an experienced litigator and trial lawyer with an emphasis on complex commercial litigation and employment litigation. He has successfully represented clients in matters involving commercial contract claims, business tort claims, wrongful termination of employment claims, and restrictive covenants, as well as against claims under the FLSA, ADA and 28 U.S.C. § 1981. He has also prevailed on behalf of residents and corporations opposing large real estate developments. His recent experience includes:• Obtaining a Pennsylvania Superior Court ruling that a claim of breach of fiduciary duty by a former robotics company CEO against its largest shareholder and others was barred by collateral estoppel• Successfully resolving breach of fiduciary duty and patent infringement claims by a Texas company against one of the region’s largest employers• Obtaining a defense verdict as lead counsel in a federal court jury trial involving discrimination claims against one of the region’s largest employers• Successfully opposing a significant real estate development on behalf of 100 residential clients• Successfully resolving FLSA and state wage and hour claims against a large regional grocer• Obtaining summary judgment on all federal claims brought by a former Division I athletic coach against a university• Obtaining summary judgment on all claims brought by a police officer against his employer• Successfully resolving a tortious interference with contract claim by a mill services company against a Russian steelmaking conglomeratePrior to joining Marcus & Shapira in 2012, Jon worked for several years in New York City at the largest law firm in the country devoted solely to business litigation. He then joined a global full-service law firm in Washington, D.C., where he gained additional experience before becoming a Trial Attorney for the United States Department of Labor. As a member of a task force hired to tackle a massive backlog of safety violations, he negotiated favorable settlements of nearly 150 cases within eight months and successfully argued at trial that a monetary penalty assessed against a large mine operator should be multiplied eightfold.Jon graduated from the New York University School of Law in 2004, Boston University School of Communications in 1996 (M.S. Broadcast Journalism), and the University of Michigan in 1994 (B.A. English Literature). After earning his master’s degree, he spent four years working as a television sports and news anchor/reporter in Montana and Virginia.
