I held this position as the sole member of the Colorado Army National Guard Safety Office with very limited oversight. My duties included:• Served as principal advisor to The Adjutant General (TAG) of the state and Commander’s advisor in all Safety and Occupational Health matters.• Collaborated with appropriate offices to ensure all applicable safety programs, functional areas, and systems are operating in accordance with Army Regulation (AR) 385-10 (The Army Safety Program), National Guard Regulation Supplement 1 to AR 385-10, and OSHA regulations.• Managed the COARNG Safety and Occupational Health programs for TAG by developing, planning, organizing, and executing safety programs as directed in AR 385 series directives.• Prepared and facilitated quarterly State Safety Councils which include detailed analysis of all mishaps and near misses, review of all open Risk Assessment Code (RAC) 1 and 2 hazards, and promotion of command awareness and participation in state safety programs.• Maintained all state safety records to include required safety training, hazard log, and OSHA 300 forms.• Organized and executed annual Standard Army Safety and Occupational Health Inspections for the 34 full time COARNG facilities.• Appointed as the primary State Radiation Safety Officer, responsible for managing the state radioactive materials inventory and ensuring units possessing such materials are compliant with Nuclear Regulatory Commission Licenses.

Duties included:• Responsible for creating training plans for platoon, ensuring aircrews are proficient in tactics, techniques, and procedures outlined in the appropriate Field Manuals, Training Circulars, and Army Techniques Publications. • Maintaining competence in troop leading procedures and the unit training management process, exercising proficiency in the risk management process, maximizing Soldier utilization to execute aircraft maintenance to ensure adequate combat power is maintained to support the Aircrew Training Program, and achieving proficiency in aviation maintenance management. • Communicates the commander’s intent and delegates key tasks to lead the platoon in supporting the higher headquarters missions.• Assists in the development of Deliberate Risk Assessment Worksheets for all operations.• As a rated aviator, responsible for meeting Aircrew Training Program requirements and becoming a technically and tactically proficient aviator.
