I was the founding attorney in the Minnesota Attorney General’s Wage Theft Unit. The Wage Theft Unit protects and advances the economic rights of all Minnesota residents, especially those from communities and backgrounds that are most vulnerable to theft and abuse, who have traditionally lacked access to the courts and attorneys.Highlights:- Prevailed at the Minnesota Supreme Court in Madison Equities v. Attorney General's Office, A20-0434, 967 N.W.2d 667 (Minn. 2021);- Led the Attorney General's Office investigation of Shipt, Inc. for misclassification of its gig economy workforce as independent contractors instead of employees;- Led the Attorney General's Office investigation of Evergreen Acres Dairy, LLC for widespread wage theft and housing violations against its immigrant workforce;-Led numerous other investigations into employment violations, including Fortune 500 companies and large franchisors, among other things;-Led numerous multistate initiatives, including a letter urging a ban on non-competes to the FTC and the amicus curiae brief in Hus Buljic v. Tyson Foods, Inc., No 21-1010 (8th Circuit) (supporting the rights of workers to bring claims related to COVID-19 conditions in the meatpacking industry)

I represented the people of Minnesota in the Boards and Agencies Division of the Office of the Attorney General. I represented Minnesota State agencies in the enforcement of numerous state laws, including the Minnesota Fair Labor Standards Act, Minnesota Human Rights Act, and the Occupational Safety and Health Act. I represented the State at the 8th Circuit, in federal court, the Minnesota Court of Appeals, Minnesota district court, and at the Office of Administrative Hearings. I have also defended against claims of federal preemption, section 1983, and related to the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act.Highlights:- Prevailed at the Minnesota Supreme Court in In the Matter of Minnesota Living Assistance, Inc., A17-1821, 934 N.W.2d 300 (Minn. 2019). DLI prevailed on its interpretation of Minnesota's overtime law and vindicated its ability to make novel arguments in litigation without triggering administrative rulemaking requirements;-Prevailed in Minnesota Living Assistance v. Peterson, No. 17-2658, 899 F.3d 548 (8th Cir. 2018). DLI prevailed in its argument that it was not facially preempted from enforcing state wage protections by the FLSA.

Attorney for plaintiff side class action firm focusing on employee and consumer rights. Involved in e-discovery, taking depositions, preparing expert reports, and researching and drafting of legal motions and memoranda for complex class and collective litigation.

Drafted legal documents for immigration and civil cases; managed cases and functioned with limited supervision. Wrote appeals to the Board of Immigration Appeals and various applications to United States Citizen and Immigration Services; andMet with clients to diagnose legal issues and gather evidence in support of cases.

Assisted with busy family law docket; responsibilities intensified upon sudden departure of one of two full-time law clerks;Managed half of Judge Koch’s case load, including directing courtroom activity; clerked hearings and case management conferences;Researched legal issues and drafted orders and other documents for Judge Koch, often with few substantive changes; andCollaborated with other chambers staff, attorneys, and members of the broader judiciary.

Represented a putative class action against the City of Minneapolis and Hennepin County on constitutional claims arising from non-uniform tax assessment.

Represented clients in a defensive and affirmative asylum cases and in BIA appeals. Responsibilities include courtroom representation and drafting briefs and other legal documents. As a Student Director, oversaw and reviewed the clinic's cases and projects.The Advocates for Human Rights

Supervised students and managed both affirmative and defensive asylum cases. Gathered evidence, briefed defensive asylum applications, aided clients in filling out affirmative asylum applications. Appeared in immigration court on behalf of clients.

Drafted decisions for judges in the case Karemera et al. and compiled, flagged, and organized witness testimony for the judgment phase of trial.

Drafted and finalized a report analyzing how past Truth and Reconciliation Commissions dealt with indigenous and minority populations and instances of economic crimes by the State.Drafted a Rule of Law letter on Niger ahead of the 2009 presidential elections.Drafted a commentary of the African Commission for Human and Peoples' Rights Principles and Guidelines on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights on the Right to Health.

Worked as a teacher trainer at Ibanda Teacher's College in Ibanda, Uganda. Taught biology and helped the College to start and IT Department and computer lab.
