Jonathan Moritz has served with the FDNY for 24 years. He began his career in the Bureau of EMS as an EMT in 2000. During his time in EMS, he responded to various emergencies. Most notably he responded to the World Trade Center on September 11th, 2001 and subsequent anthrax and white powder runs following. In 2003 he would graduate from probationary Fire School and would be assigned to Engine 60 in the South Bronx. Later, Jonathan Moritz would transfer to Special Operations working in Squad Co. 18. As a firefighter in Special Operations, Moritz responded to a variety of technical emergencies including building collapses, high angle rope rescues and other complex fires. After his promotion in 2017 to Lieutenant, Moritz was assigned to the 3rd Division and has held assignments in Engine Co. 35 and Ladder Co. 14 in the East Harlem neighborhood of Manhattan. He is currently awaiting promotion to Captain. Lt. Moritz is responsible for the daily administration of the unit, training of current members, and for company level decisions on the fire ground. Lt. Moritz’s ultimate responsibility is the safety, operation, and well-being of the members under his command.Jonathan Moritz recently completed both the West Point Counterterrorism Leadership Program and has graduated from The Naval Postgraduate School Center of Homeland Defense and Security (CHDS) with a master’s degree in Homeland Security. Lt. Moritz previously completed his undergraduate degree in emergency management in 2019 from SUNY Empire University. He has completed all FDNY technical rescue school course offerings and is a certified fire officer and fire instructor.Jonathan Moritz is married to Rose, his wife of 15 years. Together they have two children Sloan 13, and Wyatt 11. They reside in Rockland County, NY about 45 min outside of New York City. Jonathan is a recreational SCUBA diver and enjoys wood-working projects and carpentry. Jonathan is 3rd generation of firefighters with family retired from the Baltimore City Fire Department.
