AD-PRO was created following the identification of a needs based service, to support adults and encourage children with learning disabilities to seek, gain and retain employment. my role started from the inception of the idea, to the production of a fully capable organisation that supported our client group into paid employment. also in addition to creating employment opportunities for adults, we found it essential in our planning to start early in employment education, so as to head off what we had experienced with previous generations of school leavers in our social care sector. the creation of work experience and training for children with learning disabilities, was offered to all main stream and special schools withing Rotherham. which produced excellent feedback from schools and the children taking part, to a point were funding was acquired directly from the schools involved.in creating this specific organisation, me and my colleagues, used many working years of experience within social care, to create a working employment model specific for our client group. as we identified existing employment services did not produce a rounded attitude towards continued employment, and therefor social inclusion.to accomplish this task, the team had to rethink, retrain and reorganize our own organisational structure. this had to be done whilst maintaining our current work obligations as day center staff, find funding, generate interest and permission to create a specific service from various stake holders including families. once started our commitment was to secure meaningful paid employment, using employment as the anchor, we would facilitate their long term development for opportunities both personal and public. including health, housing and social inclusion to promote independence and minimize reliance on support service involvement.
