JP works in the River Mechanics Raleigh, NC office where he leads the firm's technical work and operations. He has over 12 years of experience in water resources and ecological engineering. JP specializes in stream, river and floodplain restoration and has lead the design and engineering of ecosystem restoration projects in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Alabama. JP has extensive experience in stream and river restoration design, 1D and 2D riverine modeling, Clean Water Act Section 404/401 permitting, erosion and sediment control planning and permitting, conservation masterplanning, stormwater and water quality management, GIS and mapping, construction administration and support, field monitoring and research. Prior to founding River Mechanics, JP worked with North Carolina Cooperative Extension and the Biological and Agricultural Engineering Department at NC State where he supported faculty research projects in ecological engineering, stream and river restoration with design, permitting and monitoring. He was a frequent guest lecturer for undergraduate and graduate courses and instructed over 20 short courses for professionals with the Stream Restoration Program (SRP) and published multiple peer-reviewed journal articles. JP is passionate about conservation and protecting and restoring wild places and natural resources for the future. He is an active member of his local and professional communities and currently serves as the chairperson of the City of Raleigh’s Stormwater Management Advisory Commision (SMAC).2013 - M.S.
