- After a decade of service as the 36th Chairman of the Color Guard, the Board of Managers unanimously voted to establish this honorary new title and award a newly designed medal, a Color Guard medal surrounded by a wreath of laurels suspended on a neck sash. Captain Ridgeway was the second longest serving Chairman since the Color Guard was established in 1915. During his tenure he lead the Color Guard in no less than 88 parades, ceremonies and presentations of colors, 21 special events and 3 Triennial Meetings. Among the special events, Captain Ridgeway planned, organized, coordinated and reported on all color guard aspects of a 2012 Bicentennial memorial wreath laying ceremony to commemorate the life of one of America's Founding Fathers, Governor George Clinton, at the Old Dutch Reform Church in Kingston. Participants in the ceremony included the United States Merchant Marine Academy Band, the Kingston High School Band, color guards of the Veteran Corps Artillery and Veterans of Foreign Wars, and shooting squads of the 5th NY Continental Regiment and the American Legion as were needed to perform the traditional 19 gun salute for a deceased American Vice President. (Clinton served 3 terms as VP under Presidents Madison and Monroe.) - Ridgeway enlisted 40 new members to join the Color Guard; produced and awarded 15 certificates to deserving individuals, awarded 20 Color Guard medals to qualifying members and a dozen Veterans Quills to active members who completed a decade of service obligation, and also awarded a Color Guard Chairman’s medal to David Wood, Ridgeway’s successor as Chairman. - Ridgeway was responsible for the acquisition of nearly 30 flags added to the collection, several of his own personal design. He was also responsible for producing six challenge coins, custom embroidered polo shirts, briefcases and backpacks, etc. all of which were used for fund raising and other promotional purposes.

The Committee on Flags, Colors & Standards, also known as the Color Guard, is the most active and ceremonial committee of Sons of the Revolution in the State of New York, a Revolutionary lineage society committed to preserving the memory of the historic events and the people who helped to achieved our national Independence. Active and Veteran members of the Color Guard, nearly 100 of them in sum, participate in up to 8 presentations of the colors annually, including a banquet and church service for Washington's Birthday; as the 2nd Division's primary color guard in the Little Neck./Douglaston Memorial Day Parade from 2003 throug 2012 and leader of the parade in 2013; the NYC Flag Day Parade and a wreath laying ceremony commemorating the anniversary of the glorious execution of Nathan Hale on the plaza in front of New York City Hall, both as officials of the host organization; and a Veterans Day amassing of the colors in cooperation with partiotic lineage societies of every order.

The Sons and Daughters of Virginia Founding Fathers (SDVAFF) is a lineage society of persons eighteen (18) years of age or older who can prove lineal descent from an ancestor who was a resident of the Virginia Colony prior to 31 December 1699, provided they are endorsed by two members, they are acceptable to the Executive Board and proof of their descent is approved by the Genealogist. Its missions are to monitor and increase production of Eastern Bluebirds and certain other cavity nesting birds through a Statewide nestbox program; to educate or inform people of NY on the ecology and management of Eastern Bluebirds; to conduct research on bluebirds and bluebird habitat selection, including nest box preference studies; and to cooperate and coordinate with other organizations with purposes similar to those set forth above. I was the Democratic candidate for Ulster County Legislature in 2015 and previously in 2003. In 2015 I was also the Working Families Party candidate. My district has not been represented by a Democrat since the Legislature was established more than fifty years ago.My efforts have always supported Democratic POTUS candidates. I attended the 1980 DNC meeting when Jimmy Carter was nominated for reelection. I attended one of his town hall meetings. I met him at NY City Hall when he announced the loan guarantees and at a book signing. I broke bread with Gary Hart and Geraldine Ferraro. I met her regularly because she was US Representative of Queens and I worked with her brother.In the most recent election, I was with her, Secretary Clinton. I have been a fan and apologist of hers since before she lived in the White House. Even as I write this I am wearing a tee shirt that says "Thank you Obama 2008 - 2016 Always My President." I bought it just outside the Smithsonian African American Heritage museum after visiting with my wife, Lynne and niece, Brooke, in April 2017.

Fraunces Tavern is owned and operated by the Board of Managers of Sons of the Revolution in the State of New York. It is the oldest building in Manhattan, located at 54 Pearl Street, New York, NY 10004. This is the historic site where General Washington bade farewell to his officers on December 4, 1783, less than two weeks after the British occupation forces evacuated New York, marking the end of the American Revolution. The Fraunces Tavern Museum is devoted to the history of the events leading up to the War for Independence, through to the period preceding the adoption of the Constitution when Fraunces Tavern served as headquarters for several executive agencies. The excellent bar and restaurant on the ground floor of Fraunces Tavern is a popular attraction for visitors and workers in the midst of NYCs finantial district.

In half a century since the Legislature was established no Dems ever represented Plattekill. The only Dem who represented Lloyd for 1 term had his name on the Con ballot line too. Before 2013 there were multi-member districts, at times giving the Reps more than 3 to 1 seats in the chamber. 2013, the first year after the multi-member districts were eliminated the Dem candidate in my district lost by more than 33%. A lot of history that stood in my way. My loss by only 12% was a proud showing and a great experience because I made so many great friends. I believe my message was well received by people in my district. I am grateful for every vote I earned. This is what I wrote early in the progress of the campaign. If elected I will work effectively for the interests of our community, its business and property owners and all of it residents, not just occupy a seat and collect a paycheck. I have decades of proven leadership experience making government programs work for the people and I have the time to do it because I am retired. My opponent works full time 50 miles outside the County. He says he will take calls from constituents and try to help if he can. I want to work for my constituents without waiting for calls. Everyone says our property taxes are too high and agrees, we don’t get a fair return for what we pay. Our government needs to find more money to spend on projects and programs to benefit tax payers that does not come from the pockets of our people. I have vast experience finding innovative solutions to problems like this. My introduction to this issue derived from the Nov 17, 2014 SUNY New Paltz forum I attended with a great activist friend of mine, Lin Sakai. We reported to Plattekill Democratic Committee at its Dec 2, 2014 meeting and I was asked to spearhead an effort to get our Town Board to adopt a Resolution to oppose the Pilgrim Pipeline. In short order I met with Town Supervisor, Joseph Croce to let him know. Motivated by the powerful efforts of our team of volunteer activists and canvassers, nearly 50 or more local residents attended 4 consecutive Town Board meetings. The largest number came Jan 7, 2015 when Town Board members and almost everyone else asked questions of a Koch brothers funded lobbyist who came to advocate for Pilgrim Pipeline. Two weeks later, Jan 21, 2015 the Plattekill Town Board unanimously adopted a Resolution to oppose the Pilgrim Pipeline. I also had an important part in influencing the Ulster County Legislature to adopt their Res 38 to oppose the Pilgrim Pipeline on Feb 17, 2015 with a vote of 22 to 1. Pilgrim Pipeline is a 178 mile bidirectional pipeline system that would carry highly volatile fracked crude deriving from North Dakota's Bakken shale field, from Albany south to refineries in Linden, NJ and refined petroleum products including Diesel and jet fuel north to Albany. None would be allocated to NY. It would be for export to the world market. There is no benefit for the people of NY, only risk of damage to property and water supply. The profits would go to out of State companies. Pipelines like this have had one failure after another, all with disastrous result, people killed, water supplies ruined, land spoiled. Restoration after an incident would likly cost at least $2.5 million. First responders in Plattekill and nearby jurisdictions are not prepared to deal with a failure. The proper introduction of these esteemed personalities to the guests in attendance made an important contribution to the quality of the ceremonies.

The Little Neck / Douglaston Memorial Day Parade is the largest and among the oldest Memorial Day parades in America. NABS is an all volunteer non-profit conservation, education and research organization that promotes the prosperity of bluebirds and other native cavity nesting species. NABS mission is to engage in such educational, scientific and charitable pursuits as may be beneficial to the prosperity and well being of the three species of bluebirds and other native cavity nesting bird species in North America. NABS publishes a 36 page quarterly journal comprised of photographs, scientific research, how to articles and other related material of general interest which it circulates to more than 2,500 members throughout the United States and Canada. As a significant demonstration of conservation leadership, NABS has its journal printed on 100% recycled paper comprised of more than 50% post consumer content, using only nontoxic, nonmetallic vegetable inks. NABS recently decided to begin publishing an Eco Audit in every issue to report the cumulative benefit of its conservation initiative in terms of BTUs of energy, pounds of greenhouse gases, gallons of water and pounds of solid wastes mitigated since the Summer of 2008 when the look and quality of the publication were completely restyled to more accurately reflect the international recognition NABS seeks to maintain. Since 2008 NABS awarded 11 scientific and academic grants totaling nearly $16,000 and enthusiastically welcomes qualified applications for subsequent grants to be awarded. For more than 30 years NABS annual conferences have been hosted by one of the NABS Affiliate organizations, now more than 50 from all over the US and Canada; State and local bluebird societies and bluebird recovery projects, Audubon Societies and other environmental conservation organizations.

The area of the town was settled early in the 18th Century and the actual Town of Plattekill in southern Ulster County, NY was established in 1800. The ZBA is a quasi-judicial body responsible for reviewing questions and appeals which arise under provisions of the Town of Plattekill Zoning and Building Codes such as Variances and Special Permit Applications. Members of the ZBA are elected by the Town Board.Upon my appointment I received the following note of congratulations. "I was at the reorganizational meeting on Wednesday and was so pleased to hear the Board appoint you. I can't believe that they actually appointed a Democrat - especially a committeeman. You must have really dazzled them to overcome the politics, which makes your appointment even more special. Throughout my tenure I always performed due diligence to faithfully uphold the zoning code.

In 2000 the Douglaston and Little Neck Historical Society was instrumental in obtaining New York City Landmark District status for the Douglas Manor community which was established in 1906 and having Douglaston Hill which was established in 1853 named to the National Register of Historic Places. Currently the Society is also seeking NYC Landmark status for Douglaston Hill.

Served various terms as Chair of the Environmental Committee, the Transportation Community and the Group Home Siting Committee -Community Board 11, located in Northeast Queens is bounded by Nassau County on the east; Little Neck Bay and 26 Avenue on the north; Utopia Parkway and Fresh Meadows Lane and 210 Street on the west and the Grand Central Parkway and Horace Harding Expressway on the south. The District is comprised of the neighborhoods of Auburndale, Bayside, Douglaston, Hollis Hills, Little Neck and Oakland Gardens. These neighborhoods are residential in zoning and character with the major portion of the District comprised of 1, 2 and 3 family houses and several cooperative and condominium apartment complexes, developed 50-60 years ago and a scattering of rental apartment buildings. Douglas Manor and Douglaston Hill are landmarked communities within Board 11. The shopping needs of the residents are met by the commercial strips, all of which are C1 and C2 zoning overlays in residential districts. Community Board 11 is an upper middle income community of approximately 125,000 residents. The District remains a culturally and ethnically diverse community. Approximately 38% of the population is now foreign born, the majority (30%) of which is Asian.

The Little Neck Community Association represents a community in the northeast corner of Queens with a population of more than 20,000 residents.

Westmoreland Association is a home owners' organization representing 320 families in the northeast corner of Queens and across the County Line into Nassau County. The community was developed in 1905 in accordance with a common theme and plan, and a series of deed covenants were included in the chain of title for every property so the same architectural standards were binding on everyone and the quality of the development could be maintained. In some instances these covenants are more demanding than the NYC Building Code but they were put in place prior to the adoption of the first NYC Zoning Resolution, they run with the land and they continue to have standing through to the present day. In the early 1990s the Appellate Division sustained a judgement of NY Supreme Court in Westmoreland Association vs West Cutter Estates Ltd which ordered that a structure violating the covenants must be torn down, the foundation must be removed and the lot must be filled level with grade in order to restore its condition to what it had been prior to the date when the violation occurred. The NY Appellate Division ruled that Westmoreland's protective covenants are as binding and valid as the day they were written. Such covenants can only be a benefit to a community of property owners if they are vigilantly and consistently enforced.

Virtually every candidate for entry into any of the United States Military Academies, i.e., West Point, Anapolis, the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs and the Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY, is required to have the recommendation of a Senator or Member of the House of Representatives, with possible exceptions being children of recipients of the Congressional Medal of Honor. Members of this screening committee are charged with evaluating and comparing candidates and suggesting recommendation to be made by US Representative Gary Ackerman.

The QCA mission is to foster and develop the arts in Queens County and support arts organizations and individual artists in presenting their cultural diversity for the benefit of the community. QCA was established in 1966 by leader organizations in the borough’s cultural community. Queens Symphony Orchestra, Queens Opera Association, Queens Borough Public Library, Oratorio Society, Queensborough Community College, Saint Johns University and other visionary institutions came together to form the Council as an umbrella organization which acts to promote cultural growth and development of the arts in Queens and helps artists and groups present the borough’s diverse cultural resources to Queens residents and the larger community. QCA remains committed to supporting programs and activities that directly serve the citizens of Queens and enhance the cultural and artistic climate of the borough. QCA has grown into a wide ranging arts service organization providing grants, professional development and education services.
