I am an initiative-taking and self-driven individual who is diligent and experienced in data analytics, research, economic models, and econometric techniques. I have also gained experience in policy analysis. My skills conducting quantitative economic analysis have been utilized during my time at the Center for Research on the Wisconsin Economy (CROWE), the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, The State of Wisconsin Investment Board, as well as at the Fiscal and Economic Research Center. Beyond my technical capabilities I also have strong experience in stress management and critical thinking acquired during my time as a Soldier in the Wisconsin Army National Guard. Finally, I refined efficient communication and time management skills while balancing life-or-death situations as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) for the past five years.

As an EMT, I have been introduced to many literally life-threatening situations. In these situations, my technical objective is the health and safety of our patients. But when you step back, it also includes balancing a high-stress situation and often erratic patients; working here has instilled in me a strong ability to manage stressful situations and work effectively in a team. This is a volunteer position.

My research at the Center for Research on the Wisconsin Economy (CROWE) focused heavily on operating in a group setting to apply analytical economics to real-world questions (using Python and Excel primarily). I operated as the team leader on a report centered around tracking federal contract dollars to firms across the Midwest. The end goal was to identify which federal agencies were responsible for directing contract dollars toward which firms and sectors. As team leader, I assigned roles and oversaw the data collection (millions of contract-level observations), analytics, visualizations, and the final report outlay. On a bi-weekly basis I presented our research status and findings to our chief economist for any notes before continuing. I also functioned as a lead researcher on a project that used econometric and machine learning techniques to quantify the returns to education of the University of Wisconsin system. Throughout each project, Python was the primary driver for data exploration, cleaning, reshaping, and analyzing. Python was also used for regression analysis and machine learning algorithms (e.g., Neural Networks). Show less

Upon arrival my primary task was to research and understand the entirety of the complex MBS market with an emphasis on outlining potential risk areas in the market. As a primary researcher, I compiled these findings into a scoping document (which was later turned into a 15-page internal white paper) and presented them to the Treasury Markets Practice Group (TMPG), a group of industry leaders (e.g., PIMCO, Barclays, BlackRock, etc) across the financial sector. The report aimed to brief leaders on the complexities of the MBS product in the overall fixed income bond market. In addition to my research with the TMPG, I used data analytics tools such as R and Excel to help track, model, and analyze the FDIC’s sale of $100 billion dollars in MBS acquired during the March 2023 regional banking crisis. My analysis included creating robust R scripts to track and compare data from various sources. I then transformed this data into actionable graphs and reports on the effect the influx in supply had on spreads in the MBS market. These findings were then aggregated and presented to several Bank staff including the Head of the Markets Group. I ended my time by developing econometric models to tease out the truly causal effect of the FDIC’s sale of MBS. Show less

I used this data to develop reports examining SWIB’s voting trends over time as well as corporate response to SWIB’s proxy votes. Beyond analyzing proxy and director voting data, I conducted research investigating how issues such as proposed SEC rules, corporate divestment, and current ESG trends could affect SWIB’s investing patterns and governance practices. While there I grew in my proficiency with SQL and the usage of RDBMS such as MySQL for operations in data analytics. Show less
