Jonny joined Wardell Armstrong as a Land Surveyor in July 2007 on the companies Graduate Training Scheme after successfully completing his degree at Newcastle University. Jonny's primary role involves the undertaking of topographic surveys of quarries, landfills, Greenfield sites, Brownfield sites, flood risk assessments and engineering developments. An increasing area of work that Jonny is involved in is the design and planning applications for mineral extraction and landfill sites. Jonny is fully conversant with modern surveying techniques and instrumentation and have experience in the processing of survey data, volumetric analysis and digital design utilising LSS, for processing detail surveys, earthworks, volumetric and verification, quarry & landfill design, photomontage and visualisation. .

Jonny's role was undertaken as a summer work placement whilst studying towards my degree. Jonny worked alongside a number of the company’s full time surveyors, completing tasks such as: building surveying, topographic surveys and monitoring surveys. Jonny also took the opportunity to conduct VRS GPS based topographic surveys of Greenfield sites. As well as gaining skills in the practical aspects of surveying, this placement also gave me experience of working both independently and as part of a team and stood him in good stead for my future career with Wardell Armstrong.
