Reporting to the Managing Director, responsible for all day to day operations of this 500 man organisation providing consulting, logistics and private security services across the Middle East and Africa. BDI is a young company now looking to make the transition to a high performing, process driven organisation to allow its rapid expansion to continue. The key focus for this role has been in organisational improvement, business expansion and strategic planning.

Nairobi

Responsible for its commercial strategy and leading a large team, including 5 Country Directors, to effectively develop this organisation throughout East Africa. The group now operates in Kenya, South Sudan, Tanzania, DRC, Zambia and Somalia employing 8000 professional security personnel with an annual turnover of US$42m.Key Tasks1. Lead on the group wide implementation of the company’s 5 year strategy.2. Identify, lead and directly negotiate major contracts on optimal commercial /risk terms throughout Africa3. Ensure the organisation obtains sufficient business intelligence, competitor analysis, market trend information to establish growth and increase market share4. Develop and implement a culture of international commercial knowledge and practices, innovation and co-operation throughout the organisation with all staff seeking to achieve the highest work ethic and standards.

Reported to the CEO, managed all day to day operations of the organisation (eventually 8,000 employees) with full budgetary and P&L responsibility to deliver for the company. Led on developing the business within each country, establishing national Country Directors and leading negotiations with all prime target customers. Responsible for the implementation and maintenance of group UKAS accredited certification to ISO 9001:2015 and 18001. Designed a suite of key performance metrics and audit programmes to facilitate business integrity and ensure legal and regulatory compliance all resulting in a growth of US$20m to a total of US$ 40m at year end 2016.

South Sudan

Re-constructed and developed the organisation in South Sudan to establish Insight as the leading security provider. Led and directed all operational activities with a hands on approach producing solutions to strategic, technical, commercial, operational and personnel related challenges. Managed all operations within the country to maintain alignment with overall corporate policy, strategy and direction. Provided exemplary client relationship management, business development, in-country bidding and operational delivery to exceed growth and profit targets, year on year. Built the business from US$ 1m (150 staff) at year end 2009 to US$ 16.5m by end 2013 with more than 3,000 trained security personnel.

Arusha

As one of 3 operational Directors established this new company within Tanzania recruiting, training and supervising a security force of 500 personnel and created a command and control centre in Arusha, Tanzania. Managed operations for 500 personnel, from different ethnic groups, across Tanzania. Assessed security infrastructure and provided recommendations for upgrades. Conducted site visits to ensure standard operating procedures were continually met. Compiled security incident reports and updated monthly tracking database. Prepared monthly reports and country briefs.

Operations Officer for a company of 150 infantry personnel. Conducted deployed operations in Afghanistan. Responsible for planning, security and risk management, threat assessment and training. Planned and co-ordinated activities between 15 member states of the international peacekeeping mission.

Senior advisor to the Regiment’s Commanding Officer, whilst managing a team of 60 specialist weapon system operators. Conducted high levels of risk assessment and management in time sensitive and high-pressure situations. Responsible for the welfare, training, career development and future potential of a 60-man team with a range of skill sets and roles. Instrumental in the planning and execution of large training operations and manoeuvres in excess of 500 people.

Itc Catterick

Lead Instructor responsible for the management of a five-man training team made up of senior military instructors focussed on the delivery and development of training up to 48 soldiers at any one time. Delivered a targeted training program, whilst identifying areas for change and improved methods of course delivery.
