Environment Agency Horribridge Fish & Eel pass Client representative and supervision role developing further site experience to ensure the safe delivery and quality assurance for the repair of an existing weir and the construction of a fish and eel pass. Delivered written progress and option reports and discussed desired scheme amendments with the client. Responsibilities included co-ordination and delivery of work packages such as bellmouth construction access drawings, requiring scheduled site visits, responses to RSA’s, consultation and meetings with the client and other stakeholders including local authorities. Worked alongside both internal and external parties such as the cable design team, environment overhead lines, underground cable design teams (including HDD), existing asset and utility owners. Experienced gained in fulfilling the client facing/ PM role for large scale projects due to the absence of the lead engineer. Electricity Alliance WestBaglan Bay & Ross-on-Wye Cable Uprating Civils design experience for the new 2.7km 400kV and 1km 275kV underground cable routes near Ross-on-Wye and Baglan Bay. Works involved technical work on multiple civil elements along the route and within sealing end compounds. Close liaison with the contractor and cable design team, design included identifying the ideal cable alignment and installation, foundation design for electrical equipment, structural assessment for the re-use of existing foundations all of which had to comply with NGTS and design assurance. National GridSouth Hook CHP Grid ConnectionAssisted members of the cable design and environmental team to conduct an initial site walkover to facilitate a feasibility and option alignment report. Provided knowledge and experience to advise on proposed alignment options and utilise experience to propose options to overcome obstacles such as existing roads, utilities, watercourses and embankments. The scheme included investigating 220kV and 400kV subsea and onshore (6.5km) cable installations and HDD. -

The new development also allowed for the introduction of a new Waste Transfer Station (WTS) and the development of the Bulking Station layout. The report included an approximate energy demand assessment, cost appraisal, carbon footprint and alternative energy analysis highlighting requirements to meet BREEAM minimum standards. Further inclusions from other disciplines within Mott MacDonald, such as an environmental desk study, planning and estimated construction cost report, further informed the client.Highways Agency (Balfour Beatty Mott MacDonald), Area 2Salt Capability Review Independently produced and delivered a salt storage capability report to increase the storage capacity throughout the Area 2 network to meet minimum requirements of 15 continuous days, with each gritting route being serviced four times a day. This required site visits,investigation into innovative solution's and structural integrity of existing salt barns to provide short, medium and long term proposals. Presenting my findings to the client, quick gains were initially made through changes in work practices/methods. Highways Agency (Balfour Beatty Mott MacDonald), Area 2Pre-wetting Scheme Highways Maintenance Depots Design and installation of Pre-wetting manufacturing units (saturators) and accompanying salt stores throughout Highways Agency, Area 2 network (11 depots). Design work involved detailed design of civil works including the design of segregated drainage and salt storage systems. Advised and delivered an option and business case report to the client to enable the selection of the supply and procurement of the brine production units. Coordinated and created specification documents and drawings in accordance with SHW to facilitate full construction.
