As an Industrial Placement student, I had the opportunity to upgrade the control software of an existing Computer Integrated Manufacturing System (CIMS). My responsibilities included:- Configuring obsolete control computers as virtual machines.- Updating the main task scheduling/dispatching software for a more recent operating system.- Integrating the system with an industrial control system (SCADA) and a Web Enterprise Resource Planning system using MYSQL.- Interfacing C# and VB programs with PLCs using the OPC protocol.This experience allowed me to gain hands-on experience in upgrading and maintaining manufacturing systems, integrating different software and technologies, and programming in C# and VB during my summer placement. It was a valuable opportunity for me to apply my theoretical knowledge in a real-world setting and develop my technical skills.
