I grew up involved with Boy Scouts of America (BSA) and earned my Eagle Scout rank in June 2019. The BSA helped establish my love for the outdoors, as well as my drive to protect and conserve it. As an Eagle Scout and having many years of outdoor experience, I do my best to apply the Scout Oath and law into all that I do. The Scout Law states: "A Scout is Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent". These 12 points are ones I pride myself on upholding. Though my professional outdoor career is just beginning, my experience in the outdoors has not. Through past jobs, I have learned how to accommodate customers, provide excellent customer service, as well as some multi-tasking and the ability to "change gears" quite quickly. Currently, I am a Senior at Western Carolina University within the Parks & Recreation Management major. Through this major, I have learned more about being an outdoor professional and have received certifications for Wilderness First Aid, CPR/AED, and Swiftwater Rescue. I spent time as an intern for the Great Smoky Mountains National Park shadowing an interpretation Ranger and having a bit of insight into what a Ranger does during their day to day life. I hope to be a Ranger one day, and as a Ranger, I hope to incorporate the Scout Oath and Law into my everyday life and to bring people closer together while being outdoors, much like my outdoor experiences have had for me.
