Responsible for procuring and delivering turnkey EPC projects in the thermal, power and waste sectors as New Zealand’s largest EPC contractor. An important focus of the role is in developing new sustainable energy strategies and technologies for key stakeholders and customers in different global markets whilst continuing to deliver the large thermal energy solutions that RCR Energy NZ have built their reputation on.

The Turbine and Engineering Services division of Atlantis is arguably the most successful developer of turbines in the tidal sector.My role has been to provide strategic, commercial and technical oversight of the largest external partnership relationships that the company is involved in. The main one has been to be embedded full-time with the Lockheed Martin Corporation in New Jersey, USA overseeing Lockheed's design input to the Atlantis AR1500 turbine and the development of new pitching and yaw systems for this and future turbines. In this role I was based mainly in the USA for 2.5 years whilst also overseeing major design projects with the ETI and serving as a board member on behalf of Atlantis Operations Canada Ltd at the Fundy Ocean Research Center for Energy (FORCE).With completion and deployment of the first AR1500 turbine the role has switched to the strategic planning of the roll out of turbines on a commercial scale for future projects. This involves the set-up of a whole new supply chain, the commercial negotiation of this whilst still being involved in technical development.

I founded Limpet Technology to commercialise the unique technology that we had developed to use pressure senors and optimised, control loop, feedback algorithms to accurately control motor and other systems to drive the world's first electro-mechanical, automated height safety systems for use in the wind turbine and marine transfer sectors.As well as developing the safest and most cost effective safety system of its type, I was responsible for developing and writing the EU safety test standard and methodology for equipment of this type as, until that time, this approach to personal height safety was completely new.Although the devices lent themselves naturally to protecting the safety of personnel working in and escaping wind turbines, the technology was used in a range of other industries from theater and event/concert rigging, to general rope access and height safety, to other large industrial applications.The technology, at the time, was completely unique and ground breaking and continues to this day to be without equal. The completion of the design of the system was a complex process not just in the accuracy of the control system but also the competing issues associated with meeting the very high load capacity required for a critical, man-safe system whilst keeping the system compact enough to transport, cost effective, 100% reliable and meeting all of the tolerance and IP rating requirements in a package capable of being used in the most extreme industrial environments.The role involved designing the product, assembling a specialised engineering design team, developing the EU certification, certifying the product for industrial use, developing a commercialisation strategy and developing a team to successfully sell and service the product.
