I am a Main Board member of the York & North Yorkshire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), a private-public partnership between business and local councils, that creates industrial strategy for our region. My manufacturing background means I am often making sure that the particular challenges of this sector are represented at the Board.As a Board member, I am responsible for creating overall industrial strategy for the region and for overseeing the distribution of millions of pounds of public money to achieve those strategic goals. I chair a group of Yorkshire business executives who meet over breakfast every six weeks, sharing best practices and inviting speakers to present on a range of business topics.

I was responsible for the buying and marketing of a range of commodity chemicals, including sodium hypochlorite, sodium hydroxide, sulphuric acid, hydrochloric acid and a variety of other water treatment chemicals. I was also responsible for the purchase and management of the company's fleet for reusable drums and IBCs.The role gave me significant experience in trading chemicals, commercial contractual knowledge and also introduced me to UN approved packaging.

Sales of refinery chemicals to major oil refineries in the North of England. These included corrosion inhibitors, desalting chemicals and anti-foams as well as some water treatment chemicals. I grew sales to established customers in my time there and won a company quality award for developing field reporting software

Part of the team that built the largest soft drinks factory in Europe at the time. Responsible for the preparation of bulk drinks using a skilled workforce. The project was realised on time and in budget. Once the factory was running, I ended up as Acting Shift Manager when my Shift Manager was seconded to projects
