Responsibilities:My responsibilities varied between duties typically assigned to a paraplanner, research analyst, and advisor. As a paraplanner, I was responsible for meeting preparation, in-meeting notation, and post meeting follow up. As a research analyst, my duties involved research for special projects (including model portfolio construction), long term care insurance, medicare supplement insurance, portfolio analysis for existing clients, and speaking with wholesalers. Duties typically assigned to an advisor included creation of written financial plans, DOL compliance, 401k fund and platform evaluation/selection, and presenting concepts/portfolios directly to clients.

Intern for Congressman Gregg Harper (MS-3) in his Washington, DC office. My duties included but we're not limited to assisting constituents, tours of the capital building, sorting of voter input, and informational meetings for the purpose of providing a synopsis of subject matter for research purposes.A unique skill set that I learned in this position pertain to being patient and courteous to every person that you encounter. Often, I would interact with people from the district and they could be extremely unhappy with the state of the federal government. My job wasn't to argue, defend, or convince them to vote for Congressman Harper; no, my job was to ensure their voice was heard. This could be difficult at times, but with the support of the staff and Congressman Harper I learned the ability to separate myself from the conversation and focus on the needs of the constituent. (Not to leave the wrong impression, we would also receive plenty of calls voicing support)
