As a shareholder in the Government Law & Policy Practice in the the New York City and Albany offices of global law firm Greenberg Traurig, a 47-office, 2,650 attorney national firm, I help advance legislation in the New York State Legislature and New York City Council, secure funding for nonprofits, and help clients in the entertainment, financial services, health care, transportation and social services industries navigate New York government. I represent a wide range of clients, including the second-largest hospital system in New York City, a "Big Four" accounting firm, and the 700-member national trade association for the Broadway and live entertainment industry. I also advocate for a variety of nonprofits, including the largest provider of services for domestic violence victims in New York State, the creator of the first senior center in the country dedicated to technology, and a leading wrap-around addiction services organization. I also assist with hospitality matters for clients ranging from national hotel and restaurant chains to local eateries and bars. We appear on liquor licensing and related matters before community boards, city agencies, and New York State Liquor Authority hearing officers and commissioners. Appointed by Governor Andrew Cuomo to serve as chief executive officer of the Bureau, which has been in existence since 1909 and employs 260 people. The NYLB, which receives no taxpayer funding, carries out the responsibilities of the Superintendent of Financial Services to protect the interests of the policyholders and creditors of insurance companies that have been declared impaired or insolvent. The Bureau currently manages approximately 75 distressed entities with more than $3 billion in assets, a budget of $60 million, and 2,500 legal matters handled by outside counsel and a 20-member legal department. I also coordinated receivership activities with other states as New York representative to national organizations.

Elected to five terms to represent the 73rd Assembly District on the Upper East Side and East Midtown Manhattan. Authored 85 bills that passed Assembly, 35 of which also passed the Senate and were signed into law, including laws which expanded the statute of limitations for workers' compensation claims made by 9/11 rescue, recovery and clean-up workers; the no-fault divorce law; and, the adoption of the UPMIFA statute which allowed cultural and higher education institutions more flexibility with their endowments. Served as chairman of Assembly Committees on Oversight, Analysis and Investigation and Libraries, Task Force on People with Disabilities, and Subcommittee on Mitchell-Lama Housing.
