Chamberlain Tire Disposal (CTD Service, LLC) is a privately-owned business that helps automotive shops all over north Alabama dispose of scrap tires. I have logged over 500 trips driving light-duty trucks with cage-trailers filled with scrap tires from our clients to our used-tire shop. We cull tires with 50% or more tread that can be re-used and resell them. In doing so, I have helped CTD Service, LLC & Chamberlain Used Tires prevent tons of tires from being discarded as waste, filling landfills. We also help customers save money by avoiding the high cost of new tires. Working at Chamberlain Tire Disposal has given me an opportunity learn about entrepreneurship and how a small business operates. My duties involve: driving light-duty trucks and trailers to transport the tires, sorting tires for disposal or retail, customer service with tire disposal clients as well as customers seeking tire service on their vehicles, and working as a tire technician (mounting, balancing, and flat repairs). This job requires me to work outside in all types of weather and is physically demanding.

I was the fly fishing lead. I assited the fly fishing manager with outfitting fly fishers and those interested in fly tying. Furthermore, I worked throughout the store in sale of all the merchandise in the Orvis catalog (men's & women's clothing, fly fishing, hunting, pet, and accessories). During my time at Orvis Huntsville, I helped the fishing team increase sales in fly fishing and fly tying. This was achieved in part through engaging customers in a region where fly fishing has historically been rare yet where fishing with conventional methods is very popular. We piqued customers' interests by telling customers about how fly fishing can be used to target the species they already know, educating them about the high biodiversity of fishes in Alabama, and unique Alabama fishing opportunities that favor fly fishing (Redeye Bass).

I studied the impacts of agricultural herbicides on the growth of seagrasses. This work involved laboratory work and extensive field work in the tropics (Queensland, Australia).

I worked with Dr. Valerie Paul at the Smithsonian Marine Station (SMS) in Fort Pierce, FL on a project investigating the effects of ocean acidification on terpenoid compound production in calcareous green seaweeds.Field research include working underwater in nearshore habitats with tropical seaweeds and sea urchins. I also maintained sea urchins in indoor laboratories for research. Seaweed chemical extractions and analyses were preformed to measure concentration changes in terpenoid production (determined using HPLC at SMS). Terpene production and growth of the seaweeds relative to simulated levels of CO2 were measured in greenhouse experiments at the University of Miami (Chris Langdon). Field work also required me to live and/or work on a number of different research vessels near Florida and in the Caribbean. Publications resulting from this work:Campbell, J., J. D. Craft, N.
