My career started as an Assistant Winemaker and I moved into a role as a Senior Compliance Officer with MPI for over 6 years, with a promotion to Chief Compliance Officer during that time. Having discovered an aptitude and passion for compliance and regulatory leadership and management, I then moved to Maritime New Zealand where I have held 3 roles since 2017, including Specialist Investigator and currently their South Island Deputy Compliance Manager, which is a strategic and operational role.Areas of expertise include: In-depth knowledge of compliance requirements and issues Deep understanding of New Zealand’s primary sector Interpreting legislation Responding to and investigating accidents and incidents, leading at operational level Leading operational teams, including training, mentoring and professional development Fostering excellent working relationships I have been actively involved in committees and working groups, and been pivotal in developing regulatory compliance processes for the maritime industry. Being committed to ongoing professional development I have attained multiple industry certifications. A highlight of my career to date as a NZ Māori was being the Customary liaison for MPI and working collaboratively with Ngai Tahu, local hapu and the regulator.
