Orchestral --Jonathan played and recorded with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, and toured Germany with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. From 2019 to 2023, Jonathan played with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra in Dublin and the Ulster Orchestra in Belfast.Chamber Music --Extensive experience in wind quintets, having played 70+ concerts of a vast repertoire in Portugal and France. For seven years - member of the Hot Brass de Portugal brass quintet touring throughout the country. For five years - member of the Trompas do Tejo French horn quartet in Portugal touring throughout the country. For twenty years - playing French Horn and Piano recitals throughout Spain and Portugal.

Jonathan specialises in Natural horn. He played with Segréis de Lisboa, and played and recorded with the Gulbenkian Orchestra. He teaches Natural horn to students specialising in the Classical period.

Jonathan's masterclasses target all ages and abilities. He has extensive experience teaching secondary and university levels, often joining leading French horn players such as Radovan Vlatković, Abel Perreira and José Bernardo Silva.

Jonathan revived this historic Limerick band, recruiting new members and opening a music hub for teaching. In partnership with Garryowen Community Development Project, Jonathan took music into local schools and to the wider Garryowen community. The aim was to help community members have access to a musical opportunity in the form of learning an instrument, joining a choir or other musical activities.

Playing --Long-standing position as Principle French horn. Jonathan worked with conductors such as Gustavo Dudamel, Esa Pekka Salonen, Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Lawrence Foster, Simone Young, Thomas Helgenbrock, John Nelson and Richard Hickox, among others, and also enjoyed playing with leading soloists such as Daniel Barenboim, Nigel Kennedy, Arabella Steinbacher, Radu Lupu, Truls Mork and the Swingle Singers.The orchestra toured frequently, and Jonathan travelled with them to Japan, India, China, Thailand, USA, Brazil, Argentina, Armenia and across Europe. He also had the opportunity to play with other orchestras and music ensembles in many of those countries, such as Montepulciano and Spoleto Festivals – Italy, Oficina de Música de Curitiba – Brazil, Recital Soloist – Morocco, Spain and France, and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe – Portugal.Audition panel --Jonathan sat on audition panels for prospective brass and wind players. The panel would review the musicians' technical ability, musicality and assess their suitability for a place in the orchestra.

Jonathan was a regular soloist with the Gulbenkian orchestra in Portugal and on tour. He performed the Mozart French Horn Concertos No. 2, 3 and 4, Strauss French Horn Concertos No. 1 and 2, Britten’s Serenade for Tenor, French Horn & Strings, Schumann Konzertstück for 4 French Horns, among others. Jonathan had the honour of performing the Penderecki French Horn Concerto, under the direction of the composer himself. Jonathan also performed the Othmar Schoeck for French Horn and Strings, with the Metropolitana Orchestra in Lisbon.

Jonathan introduced the British method of French horn playing to Portugal. He was the first French horn professor at the university, responsible for writing the degree programs for French horn Bachelor and Masters levels, and supporting and preparing students for their final examinations.Jonathan sat in on all examinations for brass at the university, and was an invited examiner to the Porto Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espetáculo for their Masters of French Horn dissertations.
