JONATHAN LUCY, (b. 1994), born in Ontario, Canada is currently the Director of Bands at Centerville-Abington Community Schools where he has been since 2022. Previously Jonathan was the Director of Bands at Richmond Community Schools from 2019-22 and the head director of bands/choirs in the Fort Frye Local School District from 2016-19. Currently (Summer of 2022), Jonathan is finishing up a Master of Arts in Educational Psychology at Ball State University. In 2016, Jonathan graduated summa cum laude from Miami University with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education. He graduated from William Mason High School in 2012 with honors where he studied Music Composition and Music Theory. Teachers are Per Bloland and Robert C. Bass Jr. respectively. Jonathan enjoys writing music for symphonic winds, marching band, and video games but will entertain any form of commission. He is currently working on commissions for public schools and universities. He is also working to write music for several independent video games.Notably, Jonathan worked on the music for the indie horror exploration game Brukel created by Dr. Bob De Schutter and Lifelong Games. Brukel explores the actual memories of a 92-year old grandmother during World War II. Brukel was published on Steam in November, 2019. In collaboration with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Jonathan helped host a fundraising concert at Miami University with the premiere of his work Solitarios Iter Ex Tenebra in 2015. His inspirations to begin composing in early high school were composers like Hans Zimmer, John Mackey, and Frank Ticheli. In 2014, his piece The Pathway to the Stars was honored with the W. C. Cummings Award for Composition. In 2015, he received the L. Eugene Hill Composition Prize for his work Solitarios Iter Ex Tenebra. While not writing music, Jonathan spends a lot of his time performing. Jonathan is a trombonist and has been playing since the sixth grade. He has performed in a variety of wind bands, orchestras, and choirs. Among various performance opportunities he has performed at Orchestra Hall in Chicago. Notably, he has performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City twice. Jonathan studied trombone with Professor Jaime Morales-Matos. He is a member of the National Association for Music Education and the Game and Audio Network Guild. The Richmond Winds Indoor Group currently competes in IPA and WGI circuits. Jonathan is excited to continue his career as a composer and music educator.
