Current• Examines tax returns and/or audit settlement agreements, determines correct characterization of income or expense, identifies concerns, and contacts taxpayers for specific explanations of information and transactions and to resolve issues.• Applies federal and state tax laws, Administrative Rules and Department policies to complex and escalated cases, and for returns in specialized industries requiring research and outreach to involved parties.• Determines tax liability to collect taxes from individuals or business firms according to prescribed laws and regulations.• Analyzes taxpayer records for discrepancies, prepares tax notices and tax assessments, and issues refunds for over-payment of taxes and Notice of Credit Adjustments when appropriate.• Reviews audit settlement agreements and completes audit adjustments to reconcile taxpayer accounts; prepares approvals for withdrawal or dissolution, and Good Standing Certificates.• Creates cases for tax year testing, performs testing, and analyzes test data for accuracy.• Assigns and reviews work of lower level Tax Examiners and provides necessary job training.• Monitors and updates case management procedures, remaining current on state and federal regulations and agency policies and procedures
