How did you get into Privacy? That’s typically my first question when meeting a fellow traveler in the wild world of data protection and information compliance. I’m constantly intrigued to learn what paths we’ve traversed and what diverse life and career experiences we bring to the table.My journey started with data – specifically, data entry in mortgage underwriting and loan processing. It was here I learned early on both the power of data to achieve positive consumer and business outcomes as well as the fundamental duty of organizations to safeguard this valuable and sensitive asset. My curiosity into the normative and behavioral structures behind the collection and processing of personal data led me to subsequent roles in Data Management and then Compliance. I have developed and maintained enterprise data privacy and protection compliance programs and led teams that provide advice, support and oversight to business units on all things privacy. I enjoy finding creative ways to help organizations use personal data ethically, responsibly and in accordance with regulatory mandates while achieving strategic business objectives.I currently lead the U.S. privacy program in the Global Data Privacy and Protection Office at Raymond James. I maintain active CIPP/US, CIPM, and FIP certifications from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).
