  Undertaking an apprentice at Doc Follicles for six months in 2015 sparked my love for hairdressing and showed me that confidence can and should be cultivated. I was treated like family by their supportive team and realized what joy being of service to others brings to me. It was an experience I hold close to me. A time I took a chance despite being overwhelmed with fear, yet was only met with love and connection.Next, I operated at Lookin' Sharp Barbershop in 2019. Day in day out, my proficiency was challenged, the joints in my hand ached, and shoulder sore. Yet, reflecting on those times, I'm incredibly proud of the resilience I displayed, an essential flavor to find ourselves in to combat trying times. I now operate my shop from home. The ability to speak openly with clients that I can now call friends has made me pursue another passion. Talk therapy! Talking by its very nature is an incredibly cognitive task. Immense depth of self-discovery and transformation is fostered through the very way we utilize language in our conversations, writing, or way we speak with ourselves. Through the hardships that COVID has brought upon myself and those around me; was the realization that the ability to connect to one another is a treasure to be cherished. For this reason and that, my academic and career related pursuits are centered around this discipline of overcoming barriers through interconnectedness.
