Providing consulting services to a small number of small businesses accumulated over the years as a side project. After joining Zettagrid through its acquisition of Conexim, my role initially involved:* Integrating Conexim's data centre presences, networks and virtualisation infrastructure into the broader Zettagrid platform.* Training and mentoring Zettagrid's engineers to maintain high standards of technical excellence for Conexim's Managed Hosting customers.* Further development of key services such as the global AnyCast DNS platform.Over time, my role evolved to leadership of the Zettagrid Platform team - mentoring staff, running projects, offering technical leadership and being accountable for:* Availability and performance of the platform through a comprehensive programme of ongoing improvement and capacity management.* Leading adoption of DevOps automation (SaltStack, Ansible, Packer, Terraform, Docker and writing new tools in Python, Go, BASH and PowerShell) to support a systems architecture that improves reliability, scale and responsiveness to change.* Design and deployment of new zones in emerging markets including Indonesia encompassing VMware vCloud, storage and associated infrastructure.* Running shared storage/compute migration projects to enhance scalability, capacity and ensuring long term reliability.* Systems architecture and design across a complex VMWare stack (vSphere, vCloud Director, NSX, VSAN, vRealize Operations, vCloud Availability) and applying an understanding of APIs for these components to support integrations / automation.* Maturing the platform's security posture to readily respond to threats and compliance with IRAP, PCI-DSS and ISO27001 through secure design principles, audits, penetration testing and remediation works.* Applying a strong understanding of Operating Systems, network protocols and programming to solve complex problems.* Writing well structured documentation.* Presenting talks at VMWare vForum - most recently on applying DevOps tools and methodology to operating VMWare infrastructure at scale.

Co-founded Sport Management Systems as the CTO of the start-up to deliver a comprehensive platform as a service (PaaS) offering for sporting organisations from grass-roots to governing bodies through its service, ZEDSPORT.Responsibilities include:1. Market research, requirements analysis and building several iterations of the MVP for technology evaluation.2. Building early versions of the MVP around the MEAN Stack (MongoDB, Express, AngularJS, NodeJS).3. All aspects of the software's design including the hierarchical inheritance model, Role-Based Access Control and extensibility framework (for enabling third-party integrations / apps).4. UX design including user interface elements and navigation.5. Establishing a scalable, distributed architecture through containers (Docker).As the project and start-up evolved, my focus was drawn to:1. Further design work to add new features and develop the platform.2. Working extensively with an outsourced development house to lead development work using the scrum methodology; establishing and prioritising stories and managing sprint/product backlogs.

As a manager of technology and people, I am responsible for the network and infrastructure of Conexim's network and virtualisation platforms across Conexim's local Australian data centres and presence overseas.In addition to infrastructure, my skills in being able to translate complex business problems into elegant technical solutions have enabled me to be involved in all facets of Conexim's operations from pre-sales-engineering to solution design that have seen many long-term clients see greater innovation brought to the services they provide their customers as technology and the industry have evolved.I have been involved in product development for Conexim Private Cloud and a key driver of Conexim's Cloud Consulting Services enabling Australian and global businesses to take a cloud-agnostic approach to exploiting the efficiencies of Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure and vCloud Air in delivering fully managed hosting solutions that address client needs around Scalability, Security, High Availability and Performance while maintaining costs in lock-step with evolving business needs.My day-to-day role has evolved from primarily managing technology to leading a team of outstanding engineers, however I still get a kick out of taking an active role in Software and Network Engineering. This flexibility has enabled me to have ownership of:* Bringing IPv6 to Conexim's network in 2010, enabling it to fully embrace IPv6 as the first Australian Managed Hosting company to do so.* Design, Network Engineering and Software Development for Conexim's global AnyCast DNS and CDN Platform.* Bringing new levels of scalability through the transition from Physical Servers to Virtual Machines and more recently, Public Infrastructure-as-a-Service with a focus on DevOps and automation.

Worked on a variety of high profile projects including Server and Desktop virtualisation implementations for Huawei (China), TSMC (Taiwan) and enjoyed doing onsite escalation for companies such as NIB (Australia).
