Supervised classification of the type of media coverage, source of statements, and tone of coverage for news stories addressing Hispanic/Latino issues.• Compiled income data from large, nationally representative surveys. Combined survey data with historical Census data to create new, unique datasets. Performed initial examinations of changes in voting behavior across income quintiles.

Directed a team of 19 undergraduate researchers engaged in abstracting and coding of more than 61,000 newspaper articles to produce a measure of media attention in the state of Pennsylvania from 1979 through 2009.• Collaborated and coordinated with researchers at Temple University to ensure timely completion of abstracting and coding tasks to meet project deadlines.• Assigned tasks to researchers, engaged in weekly coder training to ensure coding accuracy standards, conducted dataset management, and performed data cleaning and quality management.• Assisted in the development of automated text classification software to streamline the classification of more than 55,000 newspaper article abstracts, saving the project an estimated five-months of coding and $30,000 in payroll. • Developed a strategy for the implementation of supervised machine learning automated text classification software.
