Served on staff of independent advisory committee appointed by President Clinton to investigate and report on the use of human subjects in Cold War radiation experiments. Worked with 56-member staff that included lawyers, ethicists, scientists, physicians, journalists, and information technology experts. Engaged in extensive archival research and conducted numerous oral history interviews. Focused on general history of research ethics during the 1940s–1960s. Reported findings at committee meetings, which received extensive media coverage. Wrote documents that became major elements in report submitted to President Clinton and published by Oxford University Press

University Of Wisconsin-Madison

Lead editor and contributing author of book titled "Electrical Engineering at the University of Wisconsin in Madison: A Centennial History, 1891–1991." Met a set of tight deadlines to complete a handsome hardcover volume before department’s centennial celebration. Researched and wrote four chapters detailing the department’s history through World War II. With three other editors (retired faculty members), prepared 17 essays for print, which were written by 15 different professors on technical aspects of the department’s postwar history.
