I managed a centralized IT team (staff of nine, budget $1.5M) for a small university, helping it transition from a temporary location to a permanent one. Most IT services were delivered in-house. We supported hardware, software, applications, library, and online delivery for 150-200 faculty and staff with 1500+ students.• Moved the school's physical location with new data/phone wiring, mapping, and configuration.• Documented architecture and processes; developed strategic and disaster recovery plans, trained faculty and staff in appropriate technologies. • Marshaled three-year plan to migrate student information systems from AS/400 (DB2) to Windows client/server architecture (MS SQL Server) with custom interfaces to other microsystems. • Launched course management system (WebCT/Blackboard) supporting A/V streaming and distance learning.• Implemented bar-code scanning, online circulation, research & multimedia advancements for library services.• Leveraged web technologies: redesigning website, converting email server, adding e-commerce, offering online portal for student information systems, constructing intranets (students, faculty, staff), delivering online public programs. • Designed, implemented, and supported a network security solution that included SonicWall, DNS servers, and network segmenting.• Upgraded telecommunications: replacing the university’s phone switch (PBX), voicemail, phone sets, and vendors.• Created policy for technical support, remote access, resource allocation, budget distribution, file/network usage, data integrity, campus computing, disaster recovery, security, and critical and non-critical database applications.
