Purely a name change from my Online Course Developer title. My roles and responsibilities remain mostly the same.

Being an Online Course Developer has presented itself with many opportunities and challenges, I am currently responsible for: The overall organisation of Online Exams - Building exams from scratch in Moodle, testing for bugs, deployment of support on the ground in computer labs.This requires a methodical approach with a lot of planning ahead of time, during exam periods I am in constant contact with Academic, Admin, IT and central elearn staff to pull together a smooth experience for the student. It's a high pressure environment as any technical problems usually result in a negative experience for both staff and students. It's imperative that I minimise these problems to ensure confidence in the system. I have been working with online exams for 9 years so I have substantial experience in many of the problems that often present themselves and I have built up a bank of solutions. Creating Online Assessment Calendars - The Science and Health Faculty is the largest in the University with 7 different departments each with their own needs. I have created an online calendar (via Google Sheets) to mark when each assessment is due and how it will be submitted. I have liaised with admin teams to acquire this information and delegated the creation of these objects between my team and the admin teams. Training Academics - I have taken it upon myself to meet course teams to discuss their needs online and how they can achieve their goals. I have suggested that they meet a level of consistency across their individual modules to provide students with a rounded learning experience. This has been met with enthusiasm and I have provided advice on how they can create this consistency. This has been a rewarding aspect of my job to see academics take on my ideas and put them into practice.Creating Video based content - This has become a real passion of mine, getting academics to understand that they must add value to their courses by providing videos as learning objects

The position has developed during the time I have been employed here from a purely technical support role to a more immersive one that takes into consideration academic objectives and finding the right technology that best fits the task. Here are a few brief responsibilities that I carry out. Management of VLE (Virtual Learning Environment)- I have experience with Blackboard but in recent years have focused on using Moodle. I have discussed with staff how best to display the information they want to get across to students. I have suggested improvements by making individual units more visually appealing and organising the content in a more user friendly way. Training of Staff and Students- I have trained staff and students to use a number of different softwares including: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Publisher) Google Sites Google Mail VLE's- Blackboard and Moodle Blogging sites- Wordpress Video editing- Windows Movie Maker and Adobe PremierManagement of Online Exams- Usually delivered through the VLE I have supported staff and students at every stage from creation of the exam through testing it for faults to on the day support in the computer rooms. Uploading of Media to University servers- In the form of videos these can vary from documentaries, feature films to student presentations. This is an area which requires a knowledge of the copyright regulations and this is something that I keep up to date with. I worked in several departments within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences:Sep 2010 - Oct 2015 School of Languages and Area Studies. November 2015 - Oct 2017 Institute of Criminal Justice and The School of Education and Continuing Studies.Both brought their own challenges and I adapted my skills to suit.
