About Jonathan Richards

I'm a creative director, product manager, and parent who has spent the last year trying to imagine and build a better kind of screen time for preschoolers. The result - The Tublits, which is available to download on the App Store now - bridges the two very different islands on which I've spent my career.The first island we might call: 'storytelling and content production'. I abandoned a law degree, got a start in journalism, and eventually spent 10 years at the Times and the Guardian - writing, editing, commissioning, and programming and producing interactive content for two of the best-known storytelling brands in the world.The second is 'technology and product innovation': I left Fleet Street on a whim, joined a curious incubator inside Google, and spent the next 10 years building prototypes and crafting product visions for some of Google's biggest products in the last 10 years.Throughout my career I have constantly been pulled towards the seemingly opposed gravities that anchor these two islands: towards art and science, words and code, audience and ‘users’, story and product, taste and data, human craft and computer functionality. This tension - ever-present in my work and now dosed with 10+ years of parenting - is, I suspect, directly responsible for the Tublits.It's now time to find out if I can hold these twin forces in balance in the one spot 😯🤞*The Tublits, an entertainment and learning app for preschoolers, is now available to download on the App Store.*
