When we have Board (of Commissions) meetings, they consist of the President, the CPA, and myself. Occasionally, depending the circumstances, a tech could be there, if it required their physical presence, and, rarely, the Co-Owner of the Company). The President, CPA, and I have coffee and breakfast in the morning. At the end of the day, (the President tends to leave between 3:45-4:30) the CPA and I tend to leave together. We ensure the other is okay (We do, tend to be a family in that aspect, we watch each other's health), if there's anything that needs being discussed before leaving, or if we need to plan a "late night catch up session" on any books or routes at some point.I love it.

I worked as the assistant director for the food and beverage department at Villas By the Sea on Jekyll Island, for 9 months. I covered a wide range of responsibilities there, from a cashier in the gift shop, to event planning (as well as set-up and break down in 5 ballrooms and the beach pavilions). I oversaw, managed, and worked during events (from 150+ guest reunions, wedding ceremonies and receptions, to the "Shag Club", "Elks", and different business workshops); I was also a bartender if the event required one. I opened, managed, and expanded the pool bar in the summer, which is where I spent most of my days, when I wasn't helping with the gift shop or setting up for events. It was probably one of the most time-consuming jobs I've ever worked - however, I learned more in that year about larger scale business than I have anywhere else - and the professionals I worked with made it that much more of a fun and productive learning and work experience!

This was one of the greatest opportunities that a new or learning server can ask for. I started right before the summer started, and within 3 months I was one of the top ranking and requested servers, and I didn't want to work anywhere else. I was trained properly, both in-house and through virtual classrooms online - and it prepared me for every aspect of the job. You learn where the food comes from and how it is prepared, to properly serving every guest, with any type of special requests or needs they may have. This paved the road to being a great server (I would NEVER have felt confident enough to serve 20+ people before this job). During that time I was offered management, but I wouldn't have been as happy if I weren't able to work one-on-one with customers at the tables. After I declined the management opportunity, they knew that I would help in any area that they needed me (I would even work in the kitchen from time to time), so they allowed me to work at big events in the community, when promoting our company. After a few successful events, this is where I was taught, trained, and certified as a bartender (from FDA Safety training, FDA approved bar procedures, to FDA approved food and handling). Until I worked here, I never had such an appreciation for proper training - because like any other life experience - if you are willing to learn, you will succeed and excel ten times better, than just trying to get by.
