Berkeley United in Literacy Development (BUILD) is one of the largest reading programs in the East Bay, with 215 UC Berkeley student mentors providing one-to-one literacy support to 850 youth at 20 locations in Oakland and Berkeley. Duties as a director included:- Supervised a team of mentors to work with over 30 elementary school students enrolled in a summer recreation center program- Facilitated literacy games and workshops with groups of 5-10 students at a time to promote their relationship with reading and improve their skill levels and confidence- Mentored three elementary school students in the academic year to boost their confidence and enjoyment of reading
