In partnership with the Detroit Office of Sustainability, I am supporting the management and development of the Detroit Climate Strategy, an equity-centered and holistic (mitigation + adaptation) action plan that commits the City of Detroit to a climate resilient and carbon neutral future. My direct responsibilities include: • Coordinating the overall project team - 16 people across 7 local organizations• Facilitating the process to select final actions in alignment with city priorities + community needs• Coordinating the design and layout of the reports• Writing and reviewing content for the final reports

In this position I managed and coordinated an interdepartmental collaborative research initiative to examine effective climate change leadership pedagogy at University of Michigan. Led by Dr. Michaela Zint and Dr. Jessica Ostrow Michel, this initiative sought to publish a set of exploratory research studies on this topic as a special issue in the journal Sustainability (see link below). My particular responsibilities in this position included:• Communications and coordination between 10 research teams and the project PIs• Planning and facilitation of team meetings • Management of project processes (e.g. RFPs, proposal/manuscript submissions, manuscript revisions)• Recruitment and coordination of peer reviewers • Review and annotation of relevant literature • Co-authorship on one of the research studies

During the summer of 2021 I worked remotely as a graduate student teaching assistant for an NSF-funded Research Experience for Undergrads (REU) program hosted by Davidson College. In this program my primary responsibilities included:• Mentoring a small group of 4 students through each phase of a GIS-based research project examining the legacy impacts redlining and urban renewal have had in Charlotte, North Carolina • Teaching students basic GIS skills, focusing on QGIS and ArcGIS StoryMaps software

In this role I was responsible for coordinating and facilitating engagement around a community citizen science-based heat mapping project, funded by NOAA's National Integrated Heat Health Information System (NIHHIS) program, in the city of Detroit. • Recruited, trained, and managed 30+ volunteers who collected 100,000+ ambient air temperature measurements using specialized sensors during a heat emergency day• Produced three high resolution raster heat maps (6am, 3pm, 7pm) that identify where and how heat is distributed in the city throughout the day during a heat emergency• Conducted post-campaign engagement with volunteers and local area environmental/justice oriented nonprofits to share the results, maps, and available datasets produced

As a curriculum consultant with SEMIS, I was responsible for developing a curriculum resource on urban place-based and youth leadership oriented community climate resilience. SEMIS and EcoWorks Detroit were jointly awarded an Environmental Literacy Program (ELP) grant from NOAA in 2018 to develop and implement a high school climate change education program in Detroit and Ypsilanti public schools, and after two years of developing and piloting programming and activities, this formalized curriculum will serves as the primary programatic resource output from the grant.

I completed two full AmeriCorps service terms at EcoWorks, a Detroit-based nonprofit doing work at the intersection of sustainability and justice. As a Green Schools Coordinator in their Youth Energy Squad program, I helped foster the next generation of Green Leaders in the city of Detroit. Responsibilities included: • Coordinating youth-led greening projects and activities in 15 different Detroit Public Schools • Facilitating leadership development within student groups aged 2nd-12th grade• Acquiring project funding through grant writing and other fund raising events • Co-leading the development of a Green pocket park at Cody High School• Managing project budgets totaling more than $100k • Building and maintaining project stakeholder relationships inside and outside of schools• Assisting the school district's Director of Sustainability in utility tracking with EnergyCAP• Building systems and capacity within schools to reduce their environmental footprint • Utilizing the Earth Force and Yell leadership curricula

I served as secretary to the Board of Directors as well as Webmaster for the Grass Roots Environmental Action Team (GREAT) Foundation, a Metro-Detroit based nonprofit. Responsibilities included:• Preparing, distributing, and archiving meeting minutes• Creating and maintaining our website • Researching and developing programs

Greening Detroit is a media and resource hub for all things sustainability related happening in the Metro Detroit region. As an independent media correspondent with the organizations, I was responsible for: • Assisting executive staff on projects, proposals, and general administrative work• Supporting clients by providing media sponsorship to promote their events and projects• Writing and editing press releases• Writing and posting content through multiple social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin) • Writing stories to be published on GreeningDetroit.com as well as sent out to over a hundred local news media contacts

As an independent consultant with Appen I reviewed and evaluated social media content using a detailed rating tool application to support the measurement and analysis of content relevance.

Over the course of three months I helped review and structure the curriculum for, as well as co-teach, a nine-hour course on anti-racism at the Birmingham Unitarian Church (BUC). I, along with BUC's Director of Social Justice, guided fourteen adult participants through a course that deeply examined whiteness and the impacts of white supremacy. Responsibilities included:• Structured curriculum content into a cohesive and comprehensive three session course • Created a detailed schedule of activities for each session specifying responsibilities and roles• Facilitated trust building activities, small and large group discussions, and general course content • Actively used strategies in community development, non-violent communication, and conflict resolution to respond to tension within the group in a constant effort to maintain a positive and supportive group atmosphere while covering emotionally intense and divisive topics

Assisted teaching an intensive field course on sustainable community and economic development in Belize. My involvement and responsibilities involved the following:• Assisted professor with organizing course content and scheduling logistics before the course began• Organized and hosted information sessions about the course for interested students prior to registration• Provided regular one-on-one academic support/mentoring to each of the ten students in the development and completion of their final course projects• Provided emotional support and peer counseling for students struggling with travel stress/anxiety • Liaised between students and professor to resolve concerns and collect/incorporate student feedback• Assisted in facilitating class discussions, including taking the lead role for some class times • Assisted in grading assignments • Conducted a confidential survey with the students upon completion of the course to assess the benefits of my involvement as a TA. The data was collected to provide the school with evidence to support the creation of a formal TA program for future field courses.

During my second year at Quest I was elected by the student body to the Residence Council as a Floor Representative, and I served on the council the following 2014-15 school year. My involvement and responsibilities involved the following:• Formal training in anti-oppression, conflict resolution, and peer counseling• Mentored and advised a floor of 40 primarily first year residents on personal and academic concerns• Created, planned, and implemented campus and floor educational, social, and recreational programs/events• Liaised between residents and Student Affairs• Actively ensured safety and security of students and provided emergency assistance while on-call• Attended and contributed to weekly council meetings to assess current issues on campus and coordinate responses through events, community initiatives, and resource dissemination

Forgotten Harvest is a Detroit-area food rescue nonprofit that solves two problems in the local community: food insecurity and food waste. As an intern I spearheaded youth volunteer outreach and programming.
