The Trade Law Bureau (JLT), a joint unit of Global Affairs Canada and the Department of Justice has the mandate to provide international trade and investment law services to all Canadian government departments and agencies. Summer Students are responsible for, among other things, conducting research on Canada’s international legal obligations under various trade and investment treaties (in particular, the WTO Agreements and NAFTA), assisting JLT lawyers in dispute settlement proceedings arising out of Canada’s international trade and investment obligations and assisting JLT lawyers in the negotiation of free trade and investment protection agreements.

Pages work in the House of Commons Chamber under the direction of a group of supervisors and a coordinator. They provide various services to Members of Parliament, the Speaker and Chair Occupants, and Table Officers. For example, Pages collect and distribute official documents, deliver messages to Members, serve as a link between Members and their Hill offices, answer telephone calls, and make photocopies. On occasion, Pages also meet with youth groups to speak about their duties and their experience on Parliament Hill.Professional, impartial, and efficient service is a hallmark of the House of Commons Page Program.
