To obtain the Chartered Financial Analyst® certification, candidates must meet requirements in the areas of education, examination and professional conduct. The education requirement can be met with one of the following: a bachelor’s (or equivalent) degree; four years of qualified, professional work experience; or a combination of college and work experience that totals at least four years. Candidates must complete a graduate-level self-study program that includes curricula in the areas of ethics and professional standards, investment tools, asset classes, portfolio management and wealth planning, and they must successfully pass three course exams. Chartered Financial Analyst charter holders agree to abide by the CFA Institute Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct and its Candidate Responsibility Statement.To become a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™, candidates must meet requirements in the areas of education, examination, work experience and ethics. A bachelor’s degree (or higher), or its equivalent, in any discipline from an accredited college or university is required. At least three years of relevant work experience is also required. Candidates must complete the CFP® education program, which is a comprehensive financial planning curriculum that includes courses on investments, taxation, retirement and estate planning. Candidates must then pass a final exam. CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERS agree to meet ongoing education and disclosure requirements and abide by the CFP® Board’s Code of Ethics and Professional Responsibility, Rules of Conduct and Financial Planning Practice Standards.
