The Development Sciences Rotation Program (DSRP) grants four 6-month rotations within a wide range of functions of the Development Sciences (DevSci) & Translational Medicine (TM) organizations at Genentech.

In my role as the lead fitness instructor, I motivated middle school students to embrace an active lifestyle while imparting knowledge about the significance of physical activity and cultivating healthy habits. Additionally, I took on the responsibility of substituting as a nutrition educator for elementary school students, where I disseminated information and shared insights on the importance of maintaining a nutritious diet.

I advocated for initiatives aimed at putting into practice the Food Bill of Rights, with the intention of establishing it as a nationwide framework for nutrition security. The goal was to promote the implementation of more robust policies and programs that would enhance nutrition security and address related concerns.

As a CURE (Continuing Umbrella of Research Experiences) summer intern, I will be able to work on real-world research projects that will allow me to develop my critical thinking and problem-solving skills. I also have the opportunity to work with other students and faculty members who share my passion for science. Through this program, I will gain valuable experience in experimental design, data analysis, and scientific communication. I am excited to continue building on these skills as I pursue my career in science.

Summer Program for Under-Represented Students (SPURS) is an eight-week undergraduate research experience. I'm currently focusing on lung biology, and the project I am helping with is researching the correlation between a specific gene and bronchopulmonary dysplasia in babies. Furthermore, we are looking into the role of the WNT signaling pathway in the repair process of affected infants' lung development.

FRESHFARM FoodPrints integrates gardening, cooking, and nutrition education into the curriculum through a model of partnerships, standards-based curriculum, cafeteria connections and food access.I assisted with facilitation of FoodPrints classes at Langley Elementary; included supervising adolescents, introducing them to various healthy foods, and aided with special needs and behavioral classes.

Centene Corporation seeks to transform the health of communities, focusing on aiding children, families, seniors, as well as people with disabilities.I worked in Population Health & Clinical Operations at Meridian Health to assist with project ideas and implementation; connected with corporate employees and medical professionals.

I sold items to customers, managed a cash register, and cleaned the workspace to mitigate the risk of Covid-19 spread.

I sold concessions to the patrons of MJR Universal 16. This required me to have strong communication skills and adaptive skills to serve the multitudes of people’s needs.

MITES, or Minority Introduction to Engineering and Science, is a selective six-week summer program for rising high school seniors held at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Its purpose is to expose students from underserved and underrepresented backgrounds to the fields of science and engineering.

Assisted the nurses on my unit by stocking inventory, keeping patients’ information up to date, and providing support for patients to assure them that they were in good hands.

Called taxis for discharged patients to ensure they had transportation when leaving the hospital. I also assisted security with incoming patients to the ER and assisted nurses by running errands for them.
