I am an enlisted Marine and proud Plane Captain assigned to the first operational F35B Lightning II squadron, VMFAT-501 (Warlords) at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida. I am responsible for maintaining this $150 million aircraft, to keep it at fully mission capable status for aviator training. As the Plane Captain I am responsible for launch and recovery operations, servicing, hot pit fueling operations, before, interim, and post flight inspections to include special and conditional inspections, scheduled and unscheduled maintenance to name a few.These fifth generation stealth fighters remain flying because of the talent and pride of the maintenance technicians.

As the work center supervisor, I coordinated and supervised 17 Marines, 2 sailors, and 17 civilian workers to ensure quality and timely workmanship repairing F404-GE-400/402 modules. These modules were not only used with in the powerplants division for a full build for distribution to the local F/A-18 flying squadrons but also providing for distribution for off station demands.

Responsible for the tear down, build-up, inspection and operational check out of the F404-GE-400/402 low bypass turbo fan afterburning jet engines used in the F-18 Hornet fighter aircraft.

I became a Dedicated Crew Chief on the first of the fifth generation of fighter aircraft when I got reassigned to the F-22 Raptor at Edwards Air Force Base in California. I was involved as a maintainer during the last two years of test and evaluation before the aircraft went into full production.I was assigned to the 31st Test and Evaluation Squadron.

My duties as a F-15E Dedicated Crew Chief were to keep this tried and true fighter jet flying to put bombs on target. I was deployed several times with the 335th Fighter Squadron in real world combat zones to bases in the middle east including, Al Jaber, Kuwait, Incerlik AB in Turkey, and Al Udeid, Qatar, pushing sorties allowing the pilots to accomplish their missions. I have years of blood, sweat and tears, (and a few scars) maintaining this amazing machine. The F-15E Strike Eagle is in MY opinion, the finest fighter jet ever built by the hands of man. The Air Force description of a Tactical Aircraft Maintenance Technician is as follows: Services aircraft. Performs end-of-runway, postflight, preflight, thru-flight, and phase inspections. Performs integrated combat turns and hot pit refuels. Advises on problems maintaining, servicing, and inspecting aircraft and related aerospace equipment. Uses technical data to diagnose and solve maintenance problems on aircraft systems. Interprets and advises on maintenance procedures and policies to repair aircraft and related equipment.
