I was no VR expert. But that didn’t stop me tackling this complex challenge. I dove deep into VR’s murky waters to look for sunken treasure – so that our clients could take full advantage of this slippery medium.

They wanted a content strategist but got me instead. Luckily the Swedish folks saw that beneath the weird New Zealand accent, there was in fact a strategic mind. Once aboard I got stuck in to making brands stick out across social media, brand sites, and within digital marketing.

After arriving in Sweden I immediately enrolled in SFI (Swedish for immigrants) to learn the language that had been peppering my ears for years. I balanced this with some freelancing to keep the wolves from the door.

Woods completely opened my eyes. It was a small regional shop that was strategy-led, design-driven, and unapologetically talented. The CD saw I had a knack for words, and pushed me to push myself into something new: leading the brand strategy and taking on the subsequent copywriting.

A small architect-led sign shop was my first gig. As a junior designer I was making stuff that moved people through the physical world, while designing through a digital one to capture a concept for environmental design.
