About Jorge Phillips

I am the Director of Elgin Community College's Continuing Education department overseeing contract training and open-enrollment noncredit courses. As an auxiliary unit of the college, we operate with revenues received solely from our clients and students with the goal of achieving financial "break-even" each year. I was the interim Director and a Counselor/Instructor for the Illinois Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at Elgin Community College. The Center provides free one-to-one business counseling to all start-up and existing businesses in the Elgin and Kishwaukee college districts. I taught non-credit business entrepreneurial and tax-related classes on behalf of the Center. I am a licensed Enrolled Agent and operated a tax practice for 17 years, now maintaining it part-time since 2006. In June, 2013 I completed a Master's Degree program on Community Counseling from National Louis University.     I oversee our College's non-credit class offerings which include course creation, course registration, quality, data gathering, marketing, outreach, student interraction, and financial performance. Our goal is to provide education in an enjoyable and practical manner. We offer close to 300 classroom sections each semester utilizing the teaching skills of about 85 instructors and approximately 1,500 on-line classes through our partnerships with on-line course vendors. Our most popular courses focus on vocational training particularly in the heath care industry and provding continuing education units to professionals. We are particularly interested in offering classroom courses in "green" certification such as LEED and need instructors.
