Under attorney supervision, represented a Spanish speaking detained Guatemalan national before Elizabeth, New Jersey immigration court. Interview client, witnesses, and prepare client for an individual hearing. Conduct weekly client meetings at Delaney Detention Center. Prepare affidavits, brief, and declaration statement in support of client’s asylum application. Draft discovery request and research immigration cases, statutes, and treaties involving asylum claims rooted in domestic violence.

Analyzed cases which were relied on by counsel before the Superior Court. Researched case and statutory law in the areas of criminal and immigration law. Drafted post-conviction relief opinions rooted in adverse immigration consequences of criminal convictions and sentences; failure to request a pre-trial Wade hearing and sentencing memoranda. Observed and assisted with trial preparation including drafting jury instruction and verdict sheets.

Represented pro se litigants with current employment discrimination claims before the Southern District of New York for the purposes of mediating their claims. Conduct client and witness interviewing, fact investigation and analysis, counseling, negotiation, and mediation. Prepared mediation statements and negotiation agreements; and research employment discrimination cases involving Title VII.

Researched and prepared memoranda on cases involving Title VII, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Americans with Disabilities Amended Act (ADAA), Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Pregnancy Discrimination Act (PDA), and Equal Pay Act (EPA). Analyzed briefs submitted by opposing counsel. Assisted with discovery review in pending litigation and assisted EEOC investigators in investigations to determine the strength of potential litigation.

Research Assistant for Professor Kristen E. Boon - Director of International Programs Worked with Professor to prepare an article, The High Seas Fisheries: A Case Study in Scarcity and Redistribution in International Law for publication, performed background research on common pool resource management, international trade agreements and treaties and regional fisheries management organizations; assisted in drafting article sections and responsible for finding and inserting citations in accordance with the Blue Book.
