    Developed an I/O forwarding layer for the Kitten lightweight kernel at Sandia National Labs. This layer enabled the Kitten kernel to proxy system call requests that would normally be performed locally to a remote system for external execution. As a test case for the framework, I implemented an I/O forwarding layer built using the function shipping layer. The result of this project is that it enhances the I/O capabilities of the Kitten OS, which in turn allows for more I/O intensive applications to be executed such as scientific applications.

    Lead a group of five students studying solid-state drive (SSD) based energy-efficient cloud storage as our senior capstone project. We explored the benefits of using SSDs as cache layer between a storage client and a remote HDD-based storage server. Our work consisted of implementing a spin-down daemon to exploit idle disk periods, using client-side storage caching, and exploring new cache eviction policies in order to save energy in a distributed storage system commonly used in cloud computing.
