Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Technicians perform operations which include: location, identification, render safe and disposal of foreign and domestic ordnance, ranging from conventional ordnance and IED's to nuclear weapons and WMD's on land and underwater. EOD enables access during operations in support of Carrier and Expeditionary Strike Groups, Mine Countermeasures, Naval Special Warfare, and Army Special Forces. EOD also provides training and assistance in Anti-Terrorism Force Protection procedures. They support and conduct explosives related exploitation, evidence collection, and counter-terrorism operations. Maintenance and repair of specialized EOD and combat equipment is critical for success and requires great attention to detail. Duties include performing open circuit SCUBA and mixed gas diving, demolition, parachuting, tactical delivery and extraction by unconventional methods, and weapons proficiency.

Quartermasters (QM) stand watch as assistants to the Officer of the Deck (OOD) and the Navigator; serve as Steersmen; perform ship control, navigation, and bridge watch duties; procure, correct, use, and stow navigational and oceanographic publications and charts; maintain navigational instruments and keep correct navigational time; and render honors and ceremonies in accordance with national observances and foreign customs.

Deck Seamen maintain ship's compartments, decks, deck machinery, equipment, external structure, lines, and riggings; stand underway deck watches, such as: helmsman, lookout, and messenger; stand pier sentry, fire security, anchor, and other special watches in port.

Vietnam

I was honored to assist the DPAA in an underwater mission to search for one of our fallen sailors from the Vietnam war. Being the on site EOD asset was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. I was able to serve my country in a very unique way while also gaining exposure to underwater archaeology and scientific data collection. I am very grateful.
