Responsibilities include overseeing projects from inception to completion, ensuring alignment with defined goals, timelines, budgets, and quality standards, while supporting the research team throughout the planning, execution, and reporting phases. This role also involves ensuring full compliance with funding agencies' regulations and deadlines, maintaining operational excellence through continuous process improvement, and upholding high standards of performance, transparency, and stakeholder satisfaction.

The mission of the Project Management Department was to facilitate communication between funding agencies and other departments within the Financial and Operations Office, promoting operational excellence through a continuous cycle of process improvement. In this role, oversaw project execution, coordinated with cross-functional teams, and ensured adherence to financial and operational standards to support the success of research initiatives.

Scientific Project Manager at CEDOC - Chronic Diseases Research Center, NOVA Medical School. Responsible for liaising with funding agencies, approving expenses, managing missions, and overseeing financial control of projects. Played a key role in ensuring the effective management of scientific projects and facilitating communication between various stakeholders to support research initiatives.

Managed the LYSOCIL project, a Twinning initiative led by NOVA Medical School (NMS) aimed at enhancing the research and innovation capacity of the Chronic Diseases Research Center (CEDOC-NMS|FCM) in the field of rare diseases, with the goal of establishing CEDOC as a nationally and internationally recognized Centre of Excellence for chronic rare disease research and innovation. This project involved collaboration with two esteemed institutions: Münster University (WWU), a German center renowned for its research in basic, clinical, and translational medicine related to rare diseases, and the Telethon Institute of Genetics and Medicine (TIGEM), Italy’s leading research center focused on understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying rare genetic disorders.

Part of the COVID-19 diagnostic team at NOVA Medical School's Chronic Diseases Research Center (CEDOC). Techniques employed included kit preparation, biological sample processing, nucleic acid extraction, quantitative PCR, and diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 results. Responsibilities included team coordination, laboratory inventory management, scheduling, vacation oversight, and training of interns, all contributing to the efficient operation of the team and timely processing of diagnostic tests.

Oversaw the delivery of short-term courses on "Spreadsheet" and "Spreadsheet – Advanced Features" (UFCD 0778 and 0757) at a vocational school. Developed comprehensive instructional materials and supported course coordination efforts. Instructed participants in both fundamental and advanced Excel functionalities, facilitating the acquisition of practical skills for application in professional environments.

Contributed for 5 months post-master’s dissertation to the ongoing study of cork oak decline at Biocant's Advanced Sequencing Unit. Focused on revising and refining data collected during the thesis, conducting in-depth literature reviews, and preparing research findings for publication. This role enhanced expertise in scientific writing, data interpretation, and academic research methodologies.

Master's Dissertation: "The Microbiome of Bark Lesions in Cork Oak Decline" (Grade: 19/20)Cork oak mortality emerged as a critical issue in Mediterranean forests, threatening montado biodiversity. My research focused on Acute Oak Decline (AOD), an aggressive disease initially found in Britain, linked to various bacterial species. I conducted a microbiome analysis of cork oak bark lesions in Portugal, using advanced DNA sequencing (MiSeq Illumina®) to study bacterial and fungal communities. The findings revealed high biodiversity, with microbial communities similar to those found in AOD-affected trees, paving the way for further exploration of emerging microorganisms involved in cork oak decline.
